Coffee Republic are to be the first coffee chain to offer free wifi access in the UK. A convenient feature given they recently opened a branch here in Bournemouth. Looks like I may have to find an excuse to work remotely next week, although it’ll do no good for my double amaretto latte addiction!
To get access to the wifi service (and to stop neighbours getting a free ride) you need to ask for a password, which the staff give you on a small bit of paper with your receipt. I didn’t try asking for one without having first bought a coffee, but I doubt it’s that free.
UPDATE: After going into administration in July 2009, Coffee Republic have been bought out by Arab Investments in “the largest ever coffee deal to be concluded in the UK“. And there’s me grumbling about £2.90 for a grande latte! So it seems free wifi in Bournemouth is safe for now…
